When I was a little girl, I believed in fairy tales... that fantasy of what life would be. White dress, a prince charming who would carry me away to a castle on a hill. I would lie in bed at night and close my eyes and had complete and utter faith. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Prince Charming, they were so close I could taste them, but one day the fairy tale disappeared. It's hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely because we all have that smallest bit of hope, of faith, that one day we will open our eyes and it will come true. Then one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. This life, with all of its complexities, may be the fairy tale after all, because the journey is the best part. It's Happily Ever After...right now.

Little Miss Thang

It's been a long crummy day, and tonight I knew just what would make me feel better: FaceTime with the grandgirls. All is well in my world when I see them. Grandgirl was chatty and Tangled was smiling and happy.  Salve on a Shugie's soul....

Grandgirl showed me all of her new tricks, her doll, and her toy dog Zoomer.  She and Daddy/Offspring #1 were trying to teach robotic Zoomer a new trick to no avail.  Grandgirl then looked at me with her hand on her hip and the attitude of a 14 year old and shared, "That dog is just so uncivilized!"  I choked with laughter as I asked her to repeat herself, which she did with great confidence and clear articulation.  Uncivilized.  Yep, she's four.

When life feels overwhelming, this will be my reality check. Grandgirl's battery operated, clearly undisciplined toy dog is in fact uncivilized.  It's just not gonna get any better than that. :)

With faith (and laughter), ~Shugie
