When I was a little girl, I believed in fairy tales... that fantasy of what life would be. White dress, a prince charming who would carry me away to a castle on a hill. I would lie in bed at night and close my eyes and had complete and utter faith. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Prince Charming, they were so close I could taste them, but one day the fairy tale disappeared. It's hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely because we all have that smallest bit of hope, of faith, that one day we will open our eyes and it will come true. Then one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. This life, with all of its complexities, may be the fairy tale after all, because the journey is the best part. It's Happily Ever After...right now.

Still a Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, love happened.  A beautiful teacher fell in love with the father of a student. This father was handsome.  He was kind.  He loved her.

Once upon a time, change happened. The teacher became a flight attendant. She moved to New York.  Still he loved her.  She flew internationally.  Undeterred, he was committed still.

Once upon a time, marriage happened.  The event was huge, and fun, and Italian. They were beautiful together.

Once upon a time, life happened.  Mutual love, respect, and care flowed.  A Harley... dogs... Puerto Vallarta... Life was good.  He glowed when he looked at his bride.  Aging parents... job changes... grown son... They handled it all together for 23 years.

Once upon a time, cancer happened.  Shock, fear, and anger flowed.  How could this be?  He was a big, healthy man!  He had taken care of her for so long.  Doctor appointments... pain medication... hospice... Life was difficult.  She loved him, and held him, to the very last minute.

Once upon a time, eternity happened.  She was grateful for the life they had shared. Integrity... friendship... commitment... We are grateful to have known him.

Rest in peace MJM.

Well done good and faithful servant.  Matthew 25:23
