Forty five is less old the closer you get to it, so stop looking at Mom and Dad like they are ancient.
Dating in high school is indicative of nothing in the real world. That 18 year old hot looking jock is going to have a 50 year old body some day. So will you. The process is gradual but certain. And sex... can't be appreciated until you've found the one, and you haven't. So stop wondering "should I" or "shouldn't I."
Enjoy your time with your girlfriends. Everyone says you'll never see friends from high school once you graduate. Not true. You'll stay in touch with the ones who are important. Twenty seven years from now in Puerto Vallarta, while drinking margaritas on the beach, the story of Darla throwing up in your bed (and you washing then drying the sheets on the roof of the house) will be funny. Really.
Get to know your grandparents.
Boones Farm isn't wine; drinking milk to "coat your stomach first" is a fallacy; and taking tylenol before you go out drinking will trash your liver. Some day you can google it and see for yourself.
Stop slathering baby oil with iodine, and Crisco shortening all over your skin as you lay out in the sun during peak hours. Better yet, wear sunscreen.
Good men don't hit women.
The guy who told you he wrote that sweet love poem just for you, stole it from an Eric Clapton album.
Go away to college- even if you have to argue with Dad and pay for it yourself. It will change the entire trajectory of your life and you'll become a stronger woman a lot sooner if you have some time on your own.
People remember seemingly insignificant things that you say and do in high school, for literally decades. Careful what you say and do.
Take a different route home from your sister's house. That beautiful '72 Malibu is going to get rearended and totaled.
Someone who claims to be agnostic, is agnostic. Though right now you can't fathom it, some people do not believe in God. Surround yourself with those who do.
Talk Dad into writing down his life story. He won't want to. He has lived an amazing life and you don't want to lose the details- there is a book in there somewhere.
Math club isn't nerdy, so stop being embarrassed. Okay, maybe it is nerdy, but it looks great on a college application.
Appreciate that Mom makes your breakfast every morning. You won't always have that luxury.
You're going to lose the locket that you get for graduation. Have the clasp checked.
Long distance relationships never work.
Irritating siblings will still irritate you when you're an adult. But they will also be the first ones to call on your birthday. Mostly so they can claim to be "the winner" that year.
Don't be so scared of everything. No one else has it all figured out either.
Love hard and pray hard. Both are always worth it. :o)
When I was a little girl, I believed in fairy tales... that fantasy of what life would be. White dress, a prince charming who would carry me away to a castle on a hill. I would lie in bed at night and close my eyes and had complete and utter faith. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Prince Charming, they were so close I could taste them, but one day the fairy tale disappeared. It's hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely because we all have that smallest bit of hope, of faith, that one day we will open our eyes and it will come true. Then one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. This life, with all of its complexities, may be the fairy tale after all, because the journey is the best part. It's Happily Ever After...right now.
